A singular, super-steep Athirapally waterfall amazes you with its roaring cascade of frothy waters that wind down the Sholayar ranges of the Western Ghats. Often called the “Niagara Falls of India, this wonder of nature 80 ft high and 330 ft wide, is the largest waterfall in Kerala. The stupendous Athirapally falls join forces with the Chalakudy river & the waters glide through the rampant greenery of Vazhachal Forest toward the Arabian Sea, creating a tantalising panorama of sparkling waters, greenery of the jungle and bright blue skies. 

The irresistible beauty of the Athirapally Waterfalls has attracted many filmmakers. The shooting of many South Indian & North Indian movies has taken place in the beautiful setting of the Athirapally waterfalls. The magnum opus Bahubhali was shot in these scenic locales of Athirapally. The jungles near Athirapally falls are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna and the endangered species of birds like Hornbill are seen here. A must see for nature lovers!

Location

The Athirapally Waterfalls is located at the height of 1000 ft above sea level at the border of Ernakulam, Thrissur districts, 70 km from Kochi. To reach the falls you need to get down the mountain for about 100 meters.

Getting there

By Air: Cochin International Airport to Athirapally waterfalls distance is 63 Km.  There are Taxis from the Cochin Airport to take you to the Athirapally Falls.

By Train: The closest Railway stations – Chalakudy and Angamaly. You can also get down at Aluva or Ernakulam Stations & take a Taxi to reach here. 

By Road: All major buses ply through the towns of Chalakudy, Aluva & Angamaly. You can engage Taxis from Kochi to Athirapally falls as per your convenience from these towns.

Entry Fee: Rs.15. Entry pass from the Kerala Forest & Wildlife Department.

Vazhachal Waterfalls

The three branches garner momentum on their downward direction and plummet to the rocky bed of the river, which is a beautiful sight to watch!

The Vazhachal waterfalls is located at 60 km from Thrissur & 5 km from Athirapally Falls.

Areekkal Waterfalls

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kochi nestled amidst Rubber plantations in a most picturesque setting of miles of greenery! A great way to escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life and enjoy the serenity of nature. The silvery shimmering water cascading down from around 100 feet with forest and rubber plantations in the background is a magnificent sight to behold! Areekkal waterfalls is situated at Piramadom, 35 km from Kochi at the Pampakuda panchayat in the Piravom-Muvattupuzha route.

Charpa Waterfalls

A magnificent waterfall right on the highway is something you find very rare! The Charpa Falls, one of the enchantingly beautiful waterfalls in Kochi lies very near to the Athirappilly waterfalls.  The River Chalakudy falls down 70 feet near the roadside. There is a bridge there to view the beauty of the falls. The Charpa falls so close that the water sprinkles on our body as we stand on the bridge. A must visit the small, beautiful waterfall in Kochi & a great place to freshen up your mind, body & soul!

Charpa waterfalls is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala. Approx 2-3 km from the Athirapally waterfalls. The Charpa waterfalls lie in between the more famous Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls.
