You can stay inside the houseboat for more than a day while your “house” serenely floats on the soothing backwaters and the sounds of nature play a mesmeric melody round-the-clock. You can let your houseboat go towards the beach, or you can go on cruising around various backwater channels and enjoy the scenery.

Full of backwaters and marshy areas, Alleppey is ideal for bird sanctuaries and consequently, while you are there, you can visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary spread an open expanse of 14 acres. While luxuriating inside your boat, you can behold beautiful birds that come to roost over the patches of land and plants inside the main water body.

Enjoy boating? If you come around August, you can attend the snake boat race held in the Punnamada Lake.

Being near the sea, Alleppey gets its fair share of driftwood, and in fact, there is so much driftwood that Alleppey has Bay Island Driftwood Museum where everything is made of, you get it right, driftwood.

The most famous temple in Alleppey is Chettikulangara Devi Temple which is believed to be 1200 years old. You can also visit St. Andrew’s Basilica Arthunkal.

There are many beaches such as Thottapally Beach, Punnapra Beach and Marari Beach.

Again, the best way of visiting Alleppey is hiring a taxi service that gives you the luxury of going wherever you feel like going, stopping whenever you feel like stopping, and moving whenever you feel like moving. It is just like having your vehicle but with the added luxury of having a chauffeur.
